Rain and Hiking to The Three Lost Waterfalls

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to. J. R. R. Tolkien

Rain and more rain. Our leader proposes a hike to The Three Lost Waterfalls. There is story of three girls vanished here in 2014. It will be a muddy, wet, scrambly hike with possible trail outages. I never imagined how steep the path would be, how muddy, how high each 'step' would be - as if made for giants, well people of more than 6'3".  And after the discovery of the first, a further wild climb 'back' into the jungle to find the second with a very cool pool of water (Ben, of course, our Nordic dog sled tour guide, strips down to shorts and goes for a dip!). Standing around eating Carlos' welcome chips and cookies and then chilled, we take on the third waterfall search. We have to go single file so as not to start a mudslide- well, we have been forced single file the whole way so this direction just adds suspense. We'll have to, of course, slide back down these paths on our return! Eureka! We arrive.

El Oasis - breakfast served

In Costa Rica a Tucan in a cage is illegal.

Pejibaye River in Bosquet- yesterday before all the rain, it was blue, blue.

The Hike begins and the rain begins

Fancy Supper at El Oasis- too rainy to venture out

Back to the cabin we hiked to to pick up one member who elected not to continue the hike. She had fashioned us each a hiking stick to our delight. Mine sure helped me on the steep hike back to the the road.

We arrived to find our arranged for transport had not arrived and we are kilometers from anywhere with no wifi. We begin to hike back on the highway- in the pouring rain that has fallen most of the day.  Finally, still cheerful but chilled, we see our transport arrive!

Back to town, where we go for a lunch still soaking wet.

Fancy supper at hotel- and afterwards sitting around a fireplace! to keep warm.
