Tough Bike Ride

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

C.S. Lewis

We sleep at the Turrialba BB, in Turrialba.

Today the bike ride- is it 30 k?- is tough.
Stops on each Bike Ride to See towns and NatureBasilica of Our Lady of the Angels

This day, for some reason, my energy is low and pushing up the steep hills is a constant challenge. I feeI I've lost a little of my determination and my bike and I take time out during one long steep hill. I mount in the van that always follows and use the time to practice Spanish with driver. He is encouraging; however, I am not focused. I want to be riding.
Viewpoint

What!? We rode down that hill just to see this viewpoint and now we have to ride back up?! We do a little complaining.

Swinging Bridge

I see I could have done most of it but the story I told Carlos about my worries, may have convinced him and I feel he prefers that I not slow down the group. I take responsibility for this unusual response on his part.

I get back on the bike, though, after the hill and complete the course, that includes a shortcut over a swinging narrow bridge!  I walk my bike over, but I do get my bike through the narrow turnstiles on my own.  I am glad to say I have done almost all of the ride.

I reflect that when I take into consideration my long-term health issues and how this effects my breathing, and the amount of training I was able to give to preparation for this trip, I can raise my head and cheer at my having met the challenge of today well. I  feel at peace with what first seemed a 'failure' ride.

Evening Pub Fun (Kate and Ben)

In the evening, some of the group goes out late, braving the rain, to eat. We have a lovely time in a pub.
