This a travel day and we are well equipped by Carlos with steps for how to pass leave Nicaragua and enter Costa Rica. The best way he has learned is for him NOT to announce us as his group but for each to show papers and pay fees on his or her own. This works very well and bus ride, ferry to the mainland and "chicken bus" (public bus) and border crossing complete, we enter our mini-van for for 6 more hours. It is our bonding and joking and, for some, drinking time.
Pass Lake Arenal, a man-made lake and its hundreds of wind turbines and stop while Carlos engages in communication with howler monkeys and points out the Tucan parrot.

| Lunch Stop 'buffet' - very inexpensive- for once! :-) |
We arrive at La Fortuna in time for an excellent supper at the Las Colinas hotel. This night I share with Jocelyne, from Montreal. We find a compromise with the air conditioning. We use the fan. Our room is very small but adequate.
Great breakfast with toast!

Carlos takes us to a natural hot river he frequented as a child.
A bout of diarrhea begins for me and several others. This will last to some degree for the rest of the tour, but I will only miss one biking day!
